The Wendell Scott Foundation’s “Born to Read: Igniting Literacy in Elementary School” program is a captivating and inspiring initiative designed to enhance the literacy skills of elementary school children while fostering a love for reading. At the center of the programs the book “Born Driven,” which shares the extraordinary story of Wendell Scott, the first African American to win a race in a NASCAR Grand National Series. Through engaging activities, such as read – alongs, reading comprehension exercises, and writing exercises, students have the opportunity to explore their own dreams and aspirations while deepening their understanding of Wendall Scotts journey. The program also focuses on expanding vocabulary, promoting reflection and discussion, and developing critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
Dream 34 focuses on youth development, physical wellness, and teamwork through the power of sports and athletic mentorship. Taking inspiration from Wendell Scott’s iconic racing number, this community-driven initiative leverages sports clinics, team building, and athletic outreach—such as our proud sponsorship of alumni talent on national tournament stages—to teach young people discipline, strategic thinking, and collaborative leadership that serves them both on the court and in life.
