DANVILLE, VA — The Wendell Scott Foundation (WSF) is proud to announce it has been awarded a Next Step Grant from the Danville Regional Foundation (DRF). This vital funding will directly support a comprehensive Youth Assessment Project, designed to evaluate the current educational, social, and developmental needs of youth across Danville and Pittsylvania County.
Named in honor of Danville native Wendell Scott—the first African American driver to win a race in NASCAR’s elite Cup Series—the Foundation continues his legacy of perseverance, innovation, and breaking barriers by providing mentoring, STEM education, and youth development programs to under-resourced youth.
Understanding Our Youth, Shaping Our Future
The newly funded Youth Assessment will gather critical data from local students, educators, and community partners to pinpoint real-world challenges facing youth in the area.
Key Objectives of the Youth Assessment:
- Identify Gaps: Pinpoint unmet educational, mentorship, and extracurricular needs across the Dan River Region.
- Inform Strategy: Guide the development of targeted, evidence-based programs that equip youth for post-secondary and career success.
- Strengthen Community Action: Provide actionable insights to local policymakers, schools, and nonprofit partners to maximize collective impact.
