The Museum
On December 1st, 1963, Wendell Scott would become the first African-American driver and team owner and first African-American to win a race in the Grand National Series, NASCAR’s highest level. Scott faced countless acts of racism, discrimination, and even sabotage during his career. However, his determination to succeed and Scott’s impassioned struggle for the opportunity to race are a reflection of today’s continued struggle for equal rights.
Despite it all, he overcame. To those who shared in his journey through the Civil Rights Movement or were witness to Scott’s perseverance, ingenuity, and courage, his memory lives on. However, many among today’s generation have not been exposed to his historic legacy. Now is the time to elevate Scott’s legacy!
The Wendell Scott Foundation is proud to bring this story to the public with plans to open the Wendell Scott Center and Museum, which will inspire visitors to embrace the historical significance of Wendell Scott and the impact of his life and legacy within the context of education and innovation, as well as social and cultural changes in motorsports.
